The clay used for production is mixed according to the approved and traditional composition. This is similar to the mixture of the original terracotta warriors. Quality and consistency of the clay are regularly checked so that every figure complies with the manufacturing standards, especially blowholes in the clay structure that can cause cracks and fractures are avoided by applying these standards.
Every warrior is a handcrafted clay figure. The production of one piece takes about 14 days. Torso and legs are formed with the help of moulds after mixing the clay. The head of the warrior is also prefabricated by using moulds, however, receives much more attention in order to accentuate details and fineness. A similar degree of attention is paid to armour and garnishment of the figure. After this process the warrior is baked in an oven at 1100° Celsius for 7 days which guarantees robustness and solidity. Additionally, it hardens the clay to make it weatherproof.
After baking, a finishing, that further increases the weather resistance, is put on the warrior so that even temperatures below 0° Celsius do not cause any damage. In order to increase stability the legs of the figure are filled with hard plaster. For this reason the warrior can also resist to a certain extent pushes and wind .
The basic colour of every warrior is black. Applying a special sand structure on the surface of the warrior creates the colours “terracotta” and “sand”. If the warrior is positioned outside, this sand structure might be partly washed out over time lending even more patina to the statue.
The head of the figure is packed separately in the box. If you intend to place the warrior outside, it is recommended that the area between head and torso is sealed with silicone in order to prevent water entering the inside of the figure.
Please note:
Clay is a natural product. Therefore, we recommend wrapping the warrior in a canvas cover or storing it hidden from weather influences during the cold months. This is to prevent any kind of damage caused by bad weather conditions.
